Indiana Senate Bill 344 Advances: Lambda Legal Calls for “All Hands on Deck” to Fight It

(Indianapolis, IN, January 27, 2016)—Tonight the Indiana Senate Rules and Legislative Procedure Committee advanced Senate Bill 344; it will now go to the Senate floor for a vote. Lambda Legal is calling on Indiana. LGBT people, allies, business leaders, athletes and advocates to re-engage in the fight against SB344, a bill that will damage LGBT Hoosiers.

Victory for Fair Courts! Ninth Circuit Upholds Arizona Judicial Conduct Code

(New York, NY, January 27, 2016) In a major victory for fair courts, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today ruled in Wolfson v. Concannon that the rules in the Arizona Judicial Conduct Code restricting political activities of judges and judicial candidates do not violate the U.S. Constitution.

Lambda Legal Applauds Appointment of First Openly Lesbian Justice to Minnesota Supreme Court

"The appointment of Judge Chutich to the Minnesota Supreme Court is a powerful step toward building a judiciary that fully reflects the people of Minnesota, in all their diversity."

(January 22, 2016) — Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton today announced that Minnesota Appeals Court Judge Margaret Chutich would be appointed to the state’s supreme court. With this appointment, Chutich became the state’s first openly gay justice.

Lambda Legal Sues Boulder County Property Owner for Denying Housing to LGBT Family

(Denver, CO) – Lambda Legal today filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against a Boulder County property owner who violated the federal Fair Housing Act and the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act by refusing to rent a housing unit she owns in Gold Hill, Colorado, to a same-sex couple, one of whom is transgender, and their children because she worried their “uniqueness” would jeopardize her standing in the community.

Lambda Legal Mourns the Passing of Former New York Chief Judge Judith Kaye

(New York, January 7, 2016) Judith Kaye, the first woman to sit on and to serve as chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals, passed away today. Kaye served as the chief judge for the state’s highest court from 1983 to 2008; during her tenure she was a strong and wise voice on LGBT issues.
