HHS Proposes New Federal Rules to End Health Insurance Discrimination Against Transgender People

(September 3, 2015, New York, NY) – The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) today released proposed rules that clarify that transgender people are protected from a broad range of health care discrimination under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, the first federal civil rights law that provides protections on the basis of sex in health care.

SSA Tells Court It Will Apply Obergefell Retroactively To Grant Spousal Benefits In Lambda Legal Case

Lambda Legal Applauds Groundbreaking EEOC Decision Protecting Lesbians and Gay Men from Sex Discrimination in Employment

(New York, July 16, 2015) — The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has issued a landmark ruling that the sex discrimination provisions of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act protect employees who suffer discrimination because of their sexual orientation. The decision will have two major effects. First, it authoritatively recognizes that federal workers mistreated because of their sexual orientation have a claim under Title VII.
