In 'Groundswell of Support,' Dozens of Respected, Diverse Groups Urge Washington State Supreme Court To Allow Same-Sex Couples To Marry

(Seattle, Tuesday, February 8, 2005) — Lambda Legal said today that briefs from dozens of groups urging the Washington State Supreme Court to allow same-sex couples to marry show an “extraordinary level of support” for marriage equality among a wide range of people in the state.

Same-Sex Couples Must Be Allowed To Marry In New York, Court Rules; Lambda Legal Says Decision Is 'Historic, Well Reasoned and Fair'

(New York, February 4, 2005) — A New York State court ruled today that same-sex couples must be allowed to marry, in a decision that Lambda Legal called “a historic ruling that delivers the state Constitution’s promise of equality to all New Yorkers.” Lambda Legal filed the lawsuit last year, representing five same-sex couples seeking marriage licenses in New York City.

In Oral Argument at Pennsylvania Superior Court on Tuesday, Lambda Legal Will Fight for Lesbian Mom Seeking Long-Overdue Visitation with Her Child

(Pittsburg, February 3, 2005) — Lambda Legal will go back to the Pennsylvania Superior Court on Tuesday, February 8, at 1:00 p.m. to argue that a lower court was wrong to deny a lesbian mother visitation with her child after her ex-partner (the child’s biological mother) worked to alienate the child from her.

Lawmakers Address Discrimination in Texas Schools

Against the backdrop of a funding debate on public schools in Texas, Representatives Garnet Coleman (D-Houston), Jessica Farrar (D-Houston), and Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) filed a bill on Wednesday that could reform Texas schools in another way. The Dignity for All Students Act, HB 376, would protect students in Texas public schools from discrimination based on such things as race, religion, and sexual orientation.
