Lambda Legal 'Surprised and Deeply Disappointed' by Federal Appeals Court Ruling on Sex Stereotypes

(San Francisco, December 28, 2004) - In response to the ruling issued today in the 9th Circuit, Lambda Legal issued the following statement:

Lambda Legal Reaches Settlement Agreement With Foot Locker in Antigay Discrimination Case

(Columbia, SC, December 16, 2004) —Today, Lambda Legal announced an agreement with Foot Locker, settling its antigay discrimination lawsuit against the company. Under the agreement, Foot Locker will train its managers and employees more aggressively about antigay harassment, including emphasizing to its employees access to support and services to handle such harassment and provide an undisclosed monetary settlement to Lambda Legal’s client.

Jon W. Davidson, Long-time Senior Counsel for Lambda Legal in Western Region, Takes Helm As Organization's New Legal Director

 (New York, December 13, 2004) — Lambda Legal today announced that Jon W. Davidson is the organization’s new Legal Director, following a nationwide search over the last few months. Davidson is currently serving as Senior Counsel for Lambda Legal in its Western Regional Office and has worked for Lambda Legal for nine years. Davidson will relocate to New York to work from Lambda Legal’s national headquarters starting in January.

Lambda Legal Sees Rise in Hostility Toward Gay Youth Since Election, Expands Its Education Campaign to 'Hot Spots' in Missouri, Utah, Alabama, Iowa, Texas

(New York, December 9, 2004) - Concerned that gay youth are increasingly being denied their legal rights at school in the aftermath of last month's election, Lambda Legal said today that it is expanding its ongoing campaign on youth rights to communities where students have faced antigay hostility in recent weeks.

Federal Judge Says Lawsuit Seeking to Strike Down Oklahomas Antigay Adoption Law Can Proceed

(Oklahoma City, December 8, 2004) – In an order made public late yesterday, a federal judge gave the green light to Lambda Legal’s lawsuit that seeks to strike down Oklahoma’s antigay adoption law.


U. S. District Judge Robin Cauthron found that the lawsuit filed against Oklahoma’s Governor Brad Henry and Attorney General Drew Edmondson can go forward. The state had asked the court to dismiss the case.

New Jersey Appeals Court Hears Arguments In Lambda Legal's Case Seeking Marriage Equality for Same-Sex Couples

 (Trenton, December 7, 2004) – This morning, a state appeals court heard arguments in Lambda Legal’s case seeking marriage for same-sex couples in New Jersey. It’s not clear when the appeals court will issue its ruling in the case, which can then be appealed to the New Jersey Supreme Court.


David Buckel, Lambda Legal’s Marriage Project Director and the lead attorney on the case, argued on behalf of the plaintiffs today. Following is a brief statement from Buckel, issued immediately after this morning’s oral arguments:

Lambda Legal Advises Gay and Lesbian Ohioans That 'Issue 1' Blocks Marriage for Same-Sex Couples, Not Domestic Partner Rights and Other Protections
